Hi, my name is Naveed Chaudhri and I’m the new Head of Campaigns at RESULTS UK.
Although I started my career in publishing, I’ve volunteered in and worked for the international development sector for over 20 years, and my passion is to help grassroots campaigns networks gain public support for the changes needed to improve the lives of people in poor communities. I’ve campaigned on a whole range of issues, including health and education, debt, aid, economic justice, conflict, climate change, and women’s rights. I worked in Oxfam’s Campaigns Department for over 10 years, running their activism programme, supporting and building local groups, and running training programmes. My broader communications management experience at Oxfam included a short stint in the Asian Tsumani programme, managing media and advocacy programmes in Aceh, Indonesia in the aftermath of the disaster.
Following a short spell as a freelance trainer and facilitator, I joined Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), managing initiatives to help returned volunteers use their personal experiences to communicate the realities of international development and to build public support for aid, countering the myths we so often hear in parts of the media.
I’m Secretary of my local Oxfam campaigns group in Oxford, and I hope I have a good idea of the needs of local campaigners! But I love to learn about new tactics or approaches, particularly when they involve a bit of fun too (although I’ve dressed up as George Osbourne a few too many times now, so please don’t ask…).
Outside the world of international development, I volunteer with a local homelessness charity, and I’m also known for making unusual home-made produce. Brussels sprout wine is the strangest one so far, though it’s surprisingly nice!
I look forward to working with you and can be reached on [email protected]
