A recording of the June grassroots conference call is now available. This month, we were joined by John McLaverty, Education and Youth Advisor at Oxfam GB. He’s an experienced campaigner of many years’ standing, who chairs the Campaigns Working Group of the Send My Friend To School campaign, a coalition of NGOs and education unions which is hosted here at RESULTS.
John spoke of the importance of the UK’s implementing the Safe Schools Declaration, the only global protocol that aims to protect children from harm in conflict situations. It was signed by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson in April, and it’s now important for the UK Government to put its words into action in its own global programmes, and to encourage other countries to sign up. When conflicts strike, it’s the most marginalised who are most likely to suffer, including girls and children with disabilities.
John shared his passion for helping young campaigners to take action on inclusive education, and urged anyone who cares about the issue to get involved. Check out our June action materials for advice!
