We have made progress in tackling global hunger, yet we live in a world where malnutrition still affects 1 in 3 people and contributes to 45% of child deaths. The world is way off track to achieve the aim of the Global Goals to “end hunger and malnutrition by 2030”.
The UK has been a world leader in tackling malnutrition. The Government must now show its continued commitment and meet its objective of improving nutrition for 50 million people over the next 5 years.
On 4th August 2016, the Brazilian Government is hosting an event alongside the Rio Olympics to assess progress in tackling malnutrition, and to find a way forward. It is now time for the UK government to lead once again, and drive progress toward investment in improving nutrition.
